Senior Requirements Architect – Automotive Diagnostic Systems
Senior Requirements Architect – Automotive Diagnostic Systems
About the Opportunity Our client is preparing the next generation of a complex vehicle diagnostic platform. This transformation presents an opportunity to rethink how diagnostic capabilities are defined, structured and delivered to internal and external users.
This is not a traditional Requirements Engineering position focused on maintaining existing specifications. You will play a key role in defining the requirements architecture for a next-generation platform, balancing technical possibilities, business objectives, regulatory obligations and stakeholder expectations.
You will work from a relatively blank page, analyzing existing capabilities, challenging established approaches and helping shape the requirements that will guide future development.
Your Responsibilities Requirements Architecture & Systems Engineering
Define and structure the requirements architecture for a next-generation automotive diagnostic platform.
Analyze existing systems, identify limitations and determine opportunities for improvement.
Translate business objectives, stakeholder needs and automotive legislation into clear system and software requirements.
Establish relationships between business, functional, non-functional, interface and technical requirements.
Evaluate alternative approaches and their implications for system functionality, integration, security and maintainability.
Ensure requirements are complete, consistent, traceable and verifiable.
Contribute to the evolution of requirements-management methodologies, processes and tools.
Strategic Stakeholder Management You will operate in a complex environment involving a large number of stakeholders across engineering, software development, business, legal, compliance and management.
Your responsibilities include:
Eliciting requirements from stakeholders with different perspectives and priorities.
Challenging assumptions and identifying underlying business and technical needs.
Resolving conflicting requirements and establishing priorities.
Distinguishing mandatory legal obligations from business preferences and technical constraints.
Facilitating discussions between technical experts and senior management.
Translating complex discussions into structured requirements and well-supported decisions.
Business, Legal & Technical Trade-offs One of the central challenges involves defining how diagnostic capabilities should be made available to different users and external organizations.
For example, an independent service provider may need access to specific vehicle diagnostic or calibration functions.
Should the platform provide extensive diagnostic information, or should access be limited to the functionality necessary for a particular operation?
How do you balance regulatory obligations, business interests, cybersecurity and technical feasibility?
As a Senior Requirements Architect, you will analyse these scenarios, evaluate possible approaches and translate the outcomes into clear system, interface and access requirements.
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing requirements structures and processes.
Identify opportunities to improve requirements quality, traceability and maintainability.
Help establish a scalable requirements framework for future platform development.
Support the transition towards improved requirements-management environments.
Apply Automotive SPICE or comparable development methodologies.
Bring a proactive, forward-looking approach to engineering challenges.
Your Profile
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Automotive Engineering or a related technical discipline.
At least 5 years of experience in Requirements Engineering, Systems Engineering or Requirements Architecture.
Proven experience defining and managing complex system and software requirements.
Strong ability to translate ambiguous stakeholder needs into structured technical specifications.
Experience managing conflicting requirements across multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of automotive legislation and regulatory requirements.
Experience with Automotive SPICE or CMMI.
Experience with requirements‑management tools such as IBM DOORS/DNG, Polarion or Enterprise Architect.
Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
Ability to work independently, challenge existing approaches and propose improvements.
Professional proficiency in English.
Nice to Have
Experience with automotive diagnostics, ECU systems or embedded software.
Knowledge of UNECE R155/R156 and automotive cybersecurity.
Experience defining requirements for new platforms or major system transformations.
Understanding of software interfaces, system integration and access‑control concepts.
IREB CPRE certification.
Experience improving or restructuring requirements‑management processes.
Why Join This Project? This opportunity offers much more than traditional requirements management.
You will help establish the foundation for a next-generation automotive platform, working on complex challenges that require both technical understanding and strategic thinking.
Rather than simply documenting requirements, you will have the opportunity to question existing approaches, evaluate alternatives and influence how future capabilities are defined.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, technical specialists and senior stakeholders in an environment where your ideas and decisions can have a meaningful impact.
If you enjoy working at the intersection of systems engineering, architecture, business strategy and technology, this opportunity offers the chance to help shape the next generation of automotive diagnostics.
