Overview
In this role you drive the network control plane as part of Nike’s CIE Automation team in EMEA, turning declarative intents into scalable device configurations. You collaborate with regional engineers and Cloud Core Engineering to treat the network as a product, enabling codified, auditable changes. You balance automation value with practical risk, shaping platform direction while remaining hands-on. The opportunity combines platform engineering, deep networking, and leadership to scale automation across Nike’s global network estate.
Verantwoordelijkheden
- Build and evolve the network control plane and providers using Kubernetes, Crossplane, NetBox, NetWeave and GitOps patterns
- Own and extend the Cisco control path for IOS-XE and NX-OS devices via NETCONF, including model handling and safe production behavior
- Define YAML-based intent models with network engineers to balance abstraction and real-world requirements
- Develop pre-change validation and post-change verification to ensure delivery matches expectations
- Ensure change audits with evidence for Change Control and CAB reviews, including diffs and rollback paths
- Provide fast local development and test environments for engineers (local platform testing)
- Migrate production networks to the platform incrementally with trust from regional teams
- Introduce SRE practices (SLIs/SLOs, dashboards, error budgets, toil reduction) and move toward self-healing and closed-loop operations
- Coordinate delivery across regional teams, Cloud Core Engineering and partners to land changes end-to-end
- Apply AI thoughtfully to code generation, testing scaffolding, documentation, operations and diagnostics
- Raise engineering standards for code reviews, testing, repo structure, and release processes
- Mentor engineers moving from networking to software to grow independent contributors
- Shape platform direction and maintain hands-on contribution with a focus on repeatable engineering delivery
- Improve team processes to reduce friction and reliance on manual knowledge
- Migrate real networks onto the platform without disruption, across device classes
Belangrijkste vereisten
- Go/Python and Kubernetes engineering experience with production readiness
- Declarative control plane experience (Crossplane providers, compositions, CRDs)
- Deep Cisco networking and automation expertise (NETCONF, YANG, RESTCONF; IOS-XE, NX-OS)
- Strong routing and switching fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, data center fabrics)
- API and data modelling experience for schemas and intent models
- GitOps, CI/CD and infrastructure testing experience
- Microservices architecture and resilient service design
- Technical leadership with influence over engineers without formal authority
- Clear communication of complex platforms to technical and non-technical stakeholders
