Overview
As Senior Payroll Specialist at Backbase, you will own payroll for the Netherlands, UK, and Spain, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to employees, HR, Finance, and vendors, guiding payroll-related decisions and navigating complex regulations. The role emphasizes improving processes, reducing manual work, and exploring automation and AI to scale payroll operations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity and compliant payroll outcomes across multiple countries. This is a hands-on, autonomy-rich role with a strong impact on payroll governance as Backbase scales internationally.
Verantwoordelijkheden
- Own and oversee payroll activities for NL, UK, and Spain, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
- Serve as subject-matter expert on payroll legislation, regulations, and best practices across countries
- Ensure statutory reporting, year-end, tax requirements, and payroll obligations are met
- Identify and proactively manage payroll risks and escalate material issues
- Maintain accurate employee records and ensure payroll, compensation, benefits, and tax data are up to date
- Provide practical advisory on payroll, tax, benefits, and regulatory matters
- Partner with Finance and HR to ensure accurate data flow between systems and payroll
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure accurate payroll runs
- Continuously review and improve payroll processes, controls, and documentation
- Manage payroll ticket pipeline and complex/sensitive cases to resolution
- Maintain high-quality payroll documentation and Confluence content
Belangrijkste vereisten
- 5+ years in payroll (senior level or similar)
- Dutch + UK payroll knowledge and experience; Spanish payroll experience desirable
- Experience in international, multi-country HR environment
- Native Dutch and fluent English
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS; multiple systems/providers a plus
