Overview
In this Data Center Engineer role, you own and optimize Optiver's global data center environments, spanning multiple locations and thousands of servers. You will apply IT infrastructure expertise to solve business issues and drive improvement initiatives across projects of varying scale. You lead and contribute to build-outs, relocations, and ongoing ops, delivering practical, high-impact results. This position places you at the core of our trading infrastructure, ensuring simplicity and operational excellence. Verantwoordelijkheden
- Install and cabling of switches, servers and appliances in data centers and co-locations
- Coordinate server and network equipment installation with remote ‘smart hands’ support
- Manage power and space allocation, including capacity planning and monitoring
- Maintain clean, consistent cable management
- Track spare parts and cable inventory
- Perform break-fix repairs and component replacements
- Plan and execute data center build-outs, relocations and new installations
- Handle logistics of shipping equipment to remote co-locations
- Maintain data center documentation and support standard operating procedures
- Contribute to core office IT infrastructure including the trading floor
- Troubleshoot and test cabling (fiber and copper) with testers
- Support system builds, configuration, and troubleshooting as needed
Belangrijkste vereisten
- Experience in modern, large-scale data centers
- Ability to identify components of network equipment and servers
- Knowledge of structured cabling systems (Cat 5/6, multi-mode, single-mode fiber)
- Familiarity with power and communications cabling standards
- Experience with cable testers for fiber and copper issues
- Understanding of change control processes
- Basic server OS installation and configuration
- Strong documentation and meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Creative problem-solving and willingness to bring new ideas
- Experience leading or coordinating infrastructure projects
- Experience in large-scale data centers
- Identify parts of network equipment and servers
- Structured cabling knowledge (Cat 5/6, fiber types)
