The role Help develop the scalable quantum computer of the future by building the chips of the future.
Groove Quantum is building the scalable quantum computer of the future based on semiconductor germanium quantum dots. By integrating our leading semiconductor quantum processors into full-stack, operational quantum computers, we deliver both the hardware and software required to move quantum computing beyond the lab. As a Quantum Fabrication Engineer, your main mission will be to own and drive the process development and fabrication of next-generation quantum devices—developing, optimising, and validating robust process modules and manufacturing test devices to advance our platform with the R&D team.
Main responsibilities
Process module development:
Develop, optimise, and validate in-house cleanroom fabrication process modules specifically tailored for semiconductor quantum devices.
End-to-end process ownership:
Independently drive process development efforts, taking new concepts from initial experimentation and validation through to cleanroom handover.
Test structure design & fabrication:
Design and fabricate test structures to rigorously evaluate and refine individual processing steps.
Process module transfer:
Transfer mature, validated process modules to characterisation engineers and full device fabrication runs.
Cross-functional R&D collaboration:
Work closely with experimentalists, theorists, heterostructure specialists, and fabrication engineers to accelerate hardware development.
The team You will be an active member of our cleanroom fabrication and process development team. You will work in daily, direct collaboration with heterostructure engineers, measurement specialists, device physicists, and theorists. This role reports directly to the CTO and has no direct reports, focusing on hands‑on cleanroom execution, mask layout, and process optimisation.
You’ll be joining a dynamic team of exceptionally bright individuals who take their craft seriously, but never take themselves too seriously. We pride ourselves on strong collaboration, an ambitious yet social culture, and genuine good vibes, where high performance and a great team spirit go hand in hand.
Key qualifications We are looking for a goal-driven, hands‑on cleanroom engineer who takes strong ownership of projects and excels at optimising and innovating fabrication processes beyond standard recipes.
Education:
Master’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related field (or equivalent practical experience).
Cleanroom & nano-fabrication experience:
Proven hands‑on experience with nanometer-scale semiconductor fabrication within an academic or R&D cleanroom environment.
Process optimisation & techniques:
Demonstrated experience developing and optimising new fabrication processes (e.g., e‑beam lithography, etching, deposition, oxidation, surface treatments).
Mask layout software:
Practical experience designing devices and test patterns using mask layout software.
Independence & communication:
Ability to take independent ownership of R&D projects while maintaining strong communication and collaboration skills in an international English‑speaking team.
Bonus points
Experience/user in the TU Delft Kavli Nanolab is a big plus.
