Overview
In this role you lead ESA's Earth Observation Projects Department to define and manage approved EO programs from design through launch and in-orbit verification.
You steer project planning, resource alignment, and programmatic frameworks while coordinating with member states, industry, and partner organisations.
You will foster cross-team collaboration, develop staff, and uphold health and safety standards.
The position offers impact across high-profile missions, shaping ESA's EO capabilities and strategy.
You will drive a long-term vision for the department and liaise with EOP stakeholders to ensure mission success and organizational growth.
- Verantwoordelijkheden
- lead the design and implementation teams for the space segment of approved Earth observation missions (Earth Explorer, Scout, Earth Watch, meteorological, Copernicus, ERS-EO, national programs) up to launch and in-orbit commissioning
- direct, plan, distribute and monitor projects
- consolidate the final programmatic framework of future missions (cost at completion, schedule, procurement and geo-return)
- ensure mission requirements are implemented within schedule and cost constraints
- interface with industry to support project teams
- coordinate with Member States and partners (e. g., EUMETSAT, European Commission) on technical and programmatic issues
- implement ESA industrial policy for delegated elements
- develop and motivate departmental staff through performance assessment, learning, delegation and feedback
- foster synergy across project teams and ESA corporate activities
- manage sensitive situations and liaise with HR as required
- maintain a long-term strategic view for the department and communicate it effectively
- maintain close cooperation with EOP departments: Future Missions and Architecture (EOP-F), EO Mission Management and Ground Segment (EOP-G), Science, Applications and Climate (EOP-S)
