Internship in Clinical Research: Telemonitoring and E-Coaching in Hypertension (TECH) Trial
Description
During this internship, you will contribute to a scientific study investigating home blood pressure telemonitoring (HBPT) in patients with hypertension. The aim is to evaluate whether HBPT combined with an application for lifestyle support and coaching improves blood pressure control after six months compared with usual care. The study also examines medication adherence, cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
A total of 200 adults with a new or existing diagnosis of hypertension (blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg) are included and randomly assigned to a control or intervention group. The control group receives usual care through standard outpatient visits. The intervention group receives remote care using iHealth Track Smart® and the Luscii® application for e-coaching and recording blood pressure measurements, medication use and lifestyle activities. Participants are followed up at six weeks, six months and twelve months.
Your tasks include:
- Extracting selected data from electronic patient records and entering primary and secondary outcome data in Castor.
- Performing statistical analyses for the primary outcome: the percentage of patients with controlled blood pressure (BP below 140/90 mmHg) after six months.
- Performing descriptive statistical analyses under supervision for the PAM-13, EQ-5D-5L, MAUQ and TUQ questionnaires.
- Analyzing medication adherence between the control and intervention groups.
- Assisting with writing a scientific abstract and/or manuscript based on the data and analyses.
You will also write a research report covering the abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, literature, appendix and references, including data summaries and visualizations. Additionally, you will prepare and deliver a presentation summarizing your internship activities, methodology and (preliminary) results for the research team or an academic audience.
Work environment
You will join a scientific research project focused on improving care for patients with hypertension. The study investigates whether remote blood pressure monitoring combined with digital lifestyle support and coaching can improve blood pressure control and medication adherence.
During your internship, you will gain practical experience in clinical research and learn how research data can contribute to improving hypertension care through digital healthcare.
Sharissa Soerahi (MSc) will provide daily supervision, with Dr. Jorie Versmissen acting as the general supervisor.
