Enterprise organizations face mounting complexity in data platform strategy, governance and integration. This is the Microsoft Fabric Solution Architect role at EPAM in Germany, the Netherlands or the UK, working hybrid. You help clients navigate platform choices and shape robust architectures using Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. The role anchors in real-world enterprise challenges, from lakehouse and warehouse design to security and FinOps. You work across client IT and data teams, translating business needs into production-ready solutions. The hybrid model means you collaborate both remotely and on-site as needed. The work matters because it enables clients to build trusted, scalable data platforms that drive business outcomes.
Responsibilities Run architecture discovery, current-state assessments, data and analytics maturity assessments and technical roadmaps for enterprise clients
Make and document key platform decisions: Fabric vs. Databricks/Synapse/Snowflake, Lakehouse vs. Warehouse, storage modes, workspace and domain topology, data mesh vs. centralized models, capacity (F-SKU) sizing and licensing
Design end-to-end Microsoft Fabric solutions: OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks (PySpark/Spark SQL), Real-Time Intelligence (Eventstreams, Eventhouse/KQL) and Power BI + Power BI CoPilot
Design governance, security and operating frameworks: data governance with Microsoft Purview, sensitivity labels, RLS/OLS, identity and access models, tenant settings, a Center of Excellence (CoE), self-service BI guardrails and lifecycle management (ALM, Git integration, deployment pipelines, CI/CD)
Pick the right patterns for each customer, such as medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold), data mesh or domain-based setups and hub-and-spoke workspaces
Write and maintain enterprise-grade solution documentation, including Solution Architecture Documents (HLD/LLD), Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), non-functional requirements, security and compliance concepts, data models and lineage, operating and support models and handover documentation
Plan and run migrations from older platforms (Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, SSIS/SSAS, on-premises SQL Server, Snowflake, Databricks, Power BI Premium P-SKUs, Tableau/Qlik, etc.) to Fabric
Plan Fabric capacity (F-SKUs) and look after cost, performance and monitoring (Capacity Metrics app)
Advise on AI-ready data platforms, including Copilot in Fabric and Power BI, Fabric data agents and integration with Azure AI services
Supervise delivery as design authority: set engineering standards, run design and code reviews, define quality gates, check that implementation follows the architecture and approve changes to it; turn project experience into reusable blueprints, reference architectures, documentation templates and accelerators for our Microsoft Data & Analytics practice
Requirements Four-plus years in data and analytics, business intelligence or data platform architecture, including one-plus years in a solution architect role
One-plus year of Microsoft Fabric experience
Two-plus years of Power BI experience: enterprise semantic model design, star schema modeling, DAX concepts, performance and capacity management and tenant administration
Enough hands-on ability to validate prototypes, review pipelines, notebooks, semantic models and DAX and guide engineering decisions, without being the main builder
Solid understanding of data governance, security, identity (Entra ID) and compliance requirements in enterprise environments
Experience running workshops and presenting to both executive and technical audiences, with strong skills in writing presentations and drawing architecture diagrams
English (B2+/C1) and German (B2) communication skills
Nice to have Certifications: DP-600 (strongly preferred), DP-700, PL-300, AZ-305, PL-600
Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) and its integration with Fabric
Awareness of AI and GenAI on data platforms: Copilot in Fabric, data agents, Azure AI Foundry, RAG over enterprise data
Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and methods (TOGAF, arc42, C4 model)
Understanding of compliance and regulation such as GDPR, NIS2, DORA, BCBS 239 or the EU AI Act
Experience in regulated industries such as finance, insurance, healthcare, energy, manufacturing or the public sector
Knowledge of other data ecosystems (Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, GCP, Tableau, Qlik) to support objective platform comparisons
Experience in the Microsoft partner ecosystem, Microsoft MVP status or speaking at community events
