As an Electrical Engineer you will design the electronics of custom built equipment from scratch. Our equipment is built bespoke for our fleet, so we focus is on highly specialized one-offs instead of on high-volume series production. Together with a multidisciplinary team you will determine what the electronic system is supposed to achieve and define functional requirements, inputs, outputs and other interfaces. We like to approach this design challenge on a system level and focus attention where it matters, so our equipment is built using a mix of off-the-shelve industrial components combined with custom PCBs and wiring harnesses. Designing these PCBs (schematic and routing) and breaking down the system into logical components and interfaces will be part of your job. You are responsible for the component selection and the prototyping. Adjustment needed after testing and quality control will be implemented to the prototype followed by a testing programme together with our (offshore) end-users.
What we expect from you For this job you will need:
Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics;
Three to five years of proven experience in developing electronics;
A fundamental understanding of electrical and electronics design;
Affinity with KiCAD and EPLAN is beneficial but not strictly required;
The ability to create structured and logical breakdowns of your designs for clear communication with your colleagues (including those from different disciplines);
A solid understanding of PCB manufacturing techniques and related connection technologies (board-to-wire, wire-to-wire, etc.);
A basic understanding of EMI issues and mitigation strategies.
Beneficial but not strictly required:
Affinity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherCAT, CAN(Open), PROFINET and ModBus;
A basic understanding of embedded / industrial software development;
A basic understanding of motor / servo control.
Besides the above mentioned requirements, you recognise yourself in the following characteristics. You are very flexible and keep up the positive spirit if a project makes a 90 degree turn from one day to the other. You enjoy starting from scratch and have plenty ideas how to solve a task or problem. Besides that, you like being responsible from concept to commissioning and you are able to take decisions by yourself. Your good communication skills will help you to defend and explain the choices you made to everybody involved.
